Lithuanian songs for the International Mother Language Day celebration

On February 21, UNESCO celebrated the International Mother Language Day. The Permanent Delegation of Bangladesh to UNESCO invited all member states to develop the celebration by combining various cultural expressions: singing, dancing, poetry, literature and food.

Lithuania presented its native language at this cultural event together with 26 other member states. At the Headquarters of the Organization, the Permanent Delegation of Lithuania to UNESCO held a performance of the ensemble Les Nymphéales led by a Lithuanian Birutė Liuorytė-Gambus.  During the celebration, publications in Lithuanian, as well as Lithuanian delicacies were presented.

The International Mother Language Day 2020 under the theme "Cross Border and Shared Languages: A Positive Energy for Peaceful, Inclusive and Sustainable Societies” aimed to promote linguistic diversity and multilingualism beyond borders. Since 2000, the International Mother Language Day has been observed worldwide and held annually to promote awareness of linguistic and cultural diversity, as well as multilingualism.
