Gytis Marcinkevičius
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Delegate of Lithuania to UNESCO

Born on 15 May 1975 in Kaunas, Lithuania, Gytis Marcinkevičius began his career as a correspondent with the Lithuanian News Agency ELTA (1995-2000). After earning a Bachelor's degree in Journalism (1997) and a Master's degree in Public Relations (2000) from Vilnius University, Mr. Marcinkevičius joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

Over the course of his diplomatic career, Mr. Marcinkevičius served at the Permanent Representation of Lithuania to the European Union in Brussels (2003-2006), headed communication units within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2007-2011), and was Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Lithuania in Spain (2011-2014). He later led the Ministry's division responsible for Latin America, Asia and Oceania (2014-2018) before serving as Minister Counsellor, Deputy Permanent Delegate and Chargé d'Affaires at Lithuania's Permanent Delegation to UNESCO in Paris (2018-2022). After two years tenure as a Counsellor for Latin America and the Caribbean at the MFA, in 2024 Mr. Marcinkevičius was again appointed to the Permanent Delegation of Lithuania to UNESCO where he served as Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Permanent Delegate.

Appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Delegate of Lithuania to UNESCO as of 1 September 2026.
