Lithuanian culinary heritage presented at Francophonie celebration in Paris
On March 18, the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Lithuania to UNESCO participated in the celebration of the International Francophonie Day, held at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris. Lithuanian stand presented Šakotis (“tree cake”), a traditional spit cake with a culinary heritage status and Lithuanian hard cheese.
On the same evening, the laureates of the French competition “My thesis in 180 seconds” presented their reports on UNESCO’s fields of competence. Director-General Audrey Azoulay and Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie Louise Mushikiwabo welcomed the participants.
On March 19, a round table discussion on French language in science and research will take place at UNESCO headquarters.
The Francophonie Day is celebrated on March 20, in commemoration of the origins of the International Organization of La Francophonie. This organization brings together 88 states and governments. Its goal is to promote culture and language, to strengthen peace, democracy and solidarity in the Francophonic space. Lithuania joined the organization as an observer in 1999.
