Lithuania is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its accession to UNESCO

On the 30th of October, the Lithuanian National Commission for UNESCO together with the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society organized a charitable Gala Concert featuring Lithuania’s foremost opera prima donna Ms. Violeta Urmana, UNESCO Artist for Peace, who performed works by Andrea Cilea, Umberto Giordano, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Giacomo Puccini, Camil Saint-Saëns, Hector Berlioz, Richard Wagner, sharing the stage with tenor Alfredo Nigro and the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of its artistic director Modestas Pitrėnas.

 This charitable Gala Concert became one of the most outstanding cultural events of the season in Lithuania and had special live broadcast on the Lithuanian National Television and Radio programmes, and was attended by H. E. Mr Valdas Adamkus, former President of the Republic of Lithuania, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the Construction of Knowledge Societies, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Lithuania to UNESCO, Ambassador Arūnas Gelūnas, representatives of political, cultural, scientific and business elite, as well as many of those whose personal contribution in various fields of activities related to UNESCO cannot be overestimated.

 All donations collected are dedicated to the UNESCO programme for girls‘ education in African countries.
