Kaunas modernist architecture exhibition at UNESCO HQ marks Lithuania‘s centennial celebrations

On April 4, the exhibition of Kaunas modernist architecture entitled "Architecture of Optimism: the Kaunas Phenomenon, 1918–1940" was opened at the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris.

Lithuania‘s Permanent Delegate Ambassador Irena Vaišvilaitė addressed the members of UNESCO Secretariat, the diplomatic corps and the Lithuanian community, and reminded them about the stages of the statehood of modern Lithuania and of the significance of Kaunas, the temporary capital of the first Republic of Lithuania.

Deputy Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Center, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, expressed his satisfaction about the fact that in 2015, Kaunas has been awarded the title “City of Design” by UNESCO.

The curator of the exhibition, architectural historian and researcher of Kaunas modernist architecture, associate professor dr. Vaidas Petrulis presented the uniqueness of Kaunas architectural modernism in the context of other world's modernist cities

The opening of the exhibition received its bittersweet touch from Lithuanian chocolate producers "Chocostore".
