Landsbergis tells Georgian opposition parties: “We cannot just sit down and wait for Georgia to finally move away from the path of EU integration and democracy”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis, who met with opposition parties in the Georgian Parliament, said that as Georgia’s friends, we could not simply sit down and wait for Georgia to fall off the track of EU integration and democracy finally.

“We care about what is happening in Georgia and whether everything is going well. We feel the duty to come to you and warn about the consequences—not only will every step along the path of EU integration become complicated, but also those achievements, the benefits that Georgia enjoys (visa-free regime, Association Agreement)—should not be taken for granted,” the Foreign Minister said at the meeting.

Lithuanian, Latvian, Estonian, and Icelandic Foreign Ministers also discussed with representatives of Georgian opposition parties the need to ensure that the October parliamentary elections are conducted according to the highest democratic standards.
